There are 300,000 souls living in the City of Sunderland, many ‘having no hope and being without God in the world‘. It is our desire to be a witness in the city to the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: that Jesus Christ, the second person of the Holy Trinity, was sent by the Father, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to live, die, and rise again for sinful man – For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him – In order that we might have eternal life and fellowship with the living God.
The whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for His own glory, man’s salvation, faith and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelations of the Spirit, or traditions of men – Westminster Confession of Faith I.VI.
We are therefore committed to seeing the name of Jesus Christ exalted through a biblically shaped life, ministry, and practice.
We are thoroughly committed to the 5 Solas of the Reformation:
Sola Fide, by faith alone. Sola Scriptura, by Scripture alone. Solus Christus, through Christ alone. Sola Gratia, by grace alone. Soli Deo Gloria, glory to God alone.
Our beliefs are best summarised in the Westminster Confession of Faith with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. A link to an online version can be found here.
